Jack Brennan may have stepped out of his role as Race Director in 2023, but he remains involved in the Tour of the Gila. “Best I can tell, Jack hasn’t gone anywhere,” says 2024 Race Director Michael Engleman, who elaborates:

“The Irish saved literature and alcohol
The Greeks language
The French and the Italians food
The Scottish invented kilts and Scotch
Jack led the charge, never in a kilt, that I know of, but always against all odds.”

After decades of prioritizing the Tour of the Gila, Brennan will now have freedom to travel with his wife and spend even more time with his children and grandchildren. He still serves on the race organization’s nonprofit board, providing guidance and working countless hours toward the success of the 2024 event.

“They don’t make them like Jack anymore,” Engleman says. “It is my fear that it is not possible to do so, but having been in cycling for 37 years, I have faith in many things, so maybe there will be another, but for now I salute the Jack I know and the one in front of me.”
