The following version has been edited from its original form, as Tour of the Gila learned that Team Medellín will not attend in 2025.
Organizers of the 38th Tour of the Gila proudly announce that 20 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will participate in the UCI-sanctioned races at this year’s five-day bicycling stage race. The men’s field will include six UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) teams, four club teams, and 10 domestic elite teams. The women’s field will include a mixed UCI team, seven club teams, and four domestic elite teams.
“With such a strong showing of teams from across the world, Tour of the Gila 2025 is sure to be an exciting one to follow. Both of these fields are looking super competitive,” says Tour of the Gila Race Director Jack Brennan. “With no teams, you have no races. These teams will bring top talent to New Mexico.”
Notably, Project Echelon Racing and Canel’s Java, which both placed high in the 2024 team standings, are returning in 2025. Fount Cycling Guild, which placed second in the 2024 women’s team competition at Tour of the Gila and earned a stunning win on the queen stage last year, also returns in 2025.
The UCI mixed women’s team, Aegis Cycling, will be headlined by 2024 Tour of the Gila winner Lauren Stephens. She is able to defend her win with the support of local businessperson Jon Saari, who set out after the 2023 edition of Tour of the Gila to create a team run by and for women, and also thanks to the generosity of Doug Campbell of the Leaders of Enchantment podcast, which is the Tour of the Gila 2025 media partner.
“My goal is to support women’s sports,” Saari says, “and cycling is a sport my family shares a passion for. Having volunteered with Tour of the Gila over the years, I was proud to co-sponsor a mixed team last year and am pleased to again bring more female athletes to compete here in my own community.”
Campbell also contributed to support the foreign teams, which add to the quality of competition athletes enjoy at the New Mexico stage race annually. Seven men’s teams hail from outside the United States, as do five women’s teams. From Mexico, Canada, Colombia, and Great Britian, teams will strive to help their riders earn UCI points that factor into national team selections for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
“Bringing in talent from across the world is nothing new to Tour of the Gila, which has a long history of attracting international athletes,” Campbell says. “As one of only a couple UCI stage races in the Americas, it’s more important now than ever.”
