Watching the local residents and traveling fans on bicycles, tricycles and sometimes even scooters is one of the most popular highlights of the Tour of the Gila, as kids of all ages take to the historic streets of Silver City during the Downtown Criterium. The employees of 1st New Mexico Bank of Silver City are back this year to organize this town’s favorite event.
In-person registration runs from 9 a.m. to noon at The Hub Plaza on the corner of 6th and Bullard Streets near the Start/Finish line. All kids 12 and under race free! Fee is $5 for 13-16 year-olds, and $10 for those 17 and over. Helmets must be worn. Parents or guardians need to sign registration for children under the age of 18. Sponsor 1st New Mexico Bank provides free T-shirts for participants while they last! Podium awards will be held after the races. Bring your bike down and join in the fun. Those over age 17 can take on the challenge when they complete both forms (Citizens Race Entry Form and Waiver).

CITIZEN ROAD RACE

Take the challenge up a notch and pedal the roads through the Gila National Forest, including the infamous Sapillo Climb. Beginning at Camp Thunderbird in the Mimbres Valley, the course offers intense climbing while traveling through the tall pines of the scenic Gila National Forest. The race ends in the village of Pinos Altos where participants can watch the finishes of the Gila Monster Road Race which determines the winners of each category of the Tour of the Gila.
Racers may register on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at The Hub Plaza (6th and Bullard Streets downtown), or at the start line at 8 a.m. Prior to Sunday, registration forms are also available at Bike Works (914 N. Pope St.).
Registration for the Citizen Road Race is $20. Helmets must be worn. This is an unsupported ride, so please be prepared. One SAG vehicle will be available.
